Consumer Critiques

Length:: 9:51 Mins
The video is lengthy at practically ten minutes, so here is a short break down:
:00-two:10 : Introduction, keypad operation, and some speedy fixes to problems that I had upon delivery
two:10-Finish : Tear down and display of door locking hardware, discussion of security concerns
-----
I bought this safe to shop a loaded handgun for relatively swift retrieval, and I am going to depart from a number of the testimonials right here in that I'm not convinced of how secure this secure is. It is unquestionably a lot more secure than keeping the gun in an unlocked desk drawer or the like. It is also considerably larger than a handgun and thus more challenging to hide, so it could attract attention. The info that I provide beneath and in the video is to educate you if you did not know it currently (like I did not when I purchased this), just so that you can make an informed purchase. This secure may possibly be great for you, or it could be completely inadequate.
If your objective is to preserve young young children out, then I'd recommend this secure and call it a decent worth assuming that you're wise about hiding the keys from your kids. Young youngsters should not be able to get into this safe.
If your purpose is to preserve teenagers or thieves out, then my recommendation begins to drop assuming that your teenagers are anything like I was when I was that age - inquisitive, interested in solving puzzles, and with some spare time. Beneath are some things to be aware of just so that you know about them (I did not know any of this till I spent about 30 minutes on the internet and YouTube, so it really is out there for your children and crooks to come across fast and effortlessly).
Prospective Security Concerns:
- Security Code Reset: There are strategies to reach the reset button to the dialpad from outside the safe, giving somebody entry into the secure with out realizing the code. In the video at about the 8:30 mark, I show how to use a twist-tie to defeat this attack.
- Lock Choosing: This safe can be opened with a single crucial that overrides the keypad, which means that there is a single lock to pick. You (and anybody) can research web based how to choose this sort of lock, and you may well be shocked how easy it can be. You can disable the key function by removing portion of the mechanism inside the door, but then you risk locking your self out.
- Safe Bouncing: This is the system of opening this kind of safe by imparting a shock on the door (e.g. with a hammer). I show in the video the basis of how this operates. From what I saw in the mechanism when hitting the door, it looks like it would be potential with this safe. In spite of this, in fairness to this product, I admit that I have not yet gotten this to operate on this secure. [UPDATE 2011/02/09: Soon after a couple of minutes of practice tonight, I bounced the safe with a rubber mallet. It was not challenging at all, so just be conscious of it.]
That stated, it's likely great for keeping out younger youngsters - and there are some great functions.
Pros:
- The beeping on the keypad can be disabled. That is definitely nice
- Pretty small and can be placed on a shelf in a closet or pantry
- Can be bolted to the surrounding structure (on the bottom and/or back face) and comes with the bolts
- Comes with the batteries for the keypad
- Comes with two copies of the important utilized to override the keypad in case the batteries are low or you forget your code
I had some difficulties when the safe was delivered but here are some painless fixes for a few shortcomings that you may knowledge, too:
- The shelf is held in spot by two (a single on every single side) plastic inserts. My secure arrived with one of the plastic inserts broken, and the shelf was rattling around as I unpacked it. Given how it was packaged (and how delivery firms transport goods), I wasn't suprised. I secured the shelf in place quickly with a twist-tie.
- The door was loose when closed and would clank (it is metal on metal, after all) when I touched the dial or entered my code. Not what I want when attempting to be covert. The two bumpers on the door had been overly compressed (possibly for the duration of shipping), and I replaced them with additional solid bumpers that I had purchased at Property Depot for my kitchen cabinet doors (comparable to these). The door is great and snug now.
General, properly worth $60-$70 for piece of mind with young youngsters. I do not advise relying on this to keep out a burgler or inspired teenager, though.
UPDATE 2011/08/07: I want to give a hats off to Stack-On. Although trying out a way to make this a bit more secure, I damaged the circuit card inside the door. I contacted Stack-On, told them it was my fault, and asked how much it would expense to get a new one. They instantly replied that they'd send me a different one for absolutely free (not even a charge for shipping). Entirely unexpected and considerably appreciated - that's outstanding service, IMO. It arrived within a week and works perfectly. Thanks, Stack-On!

If you're seeking for a home secure to shop valuables and essential papers in, this is a beneficial choice. It has readily available holes in the bottom and the back of the safe to either mount to floor and/or wall. The potential to turn off the beeping keypad is a benefit for those seeking for a location to retailer a weapon for emergencies.
As other individuals have mentioned, this is not a "fire" safe - it is a theft secure. If you happen to be seeking for something to protect your possessions in case of fire, appear specifically for a fire secure.
This safe comes with keys that will open the safe working with a hidden keylock in case the battery dies. Also, an LED will let you know when your battery is finding low.
Of all the safes in this price range, this appears to be the preferred bang for the buck. Also, at 30 shipping weight - free of charge super saver shipping from Amazon is a plus!
